Napoli star moves to Galatasaray

Belgian international striker Dries Mertens, former star of Napoli, joined Turkish Galatasaray with Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira, the club announced yesterday on its Twitter account.

The Turkish club published two tweets on Twitter in which it welcomed its new players, publishing their pictures in their new red and gold shirt.

"Our new players, Lucas Torreira and Dries Mertens, have passed the medical tests," he said, quoting the Belgian as saying, "I was honored to receive the offer from Galatasaray," while the Uruguayan said, "I am very happy and excited to become a new player in Galatasaray."

The Turkish club did not reveal the value of the two deals or their duration.

And last Thursday, Martens, 35, posted a video clip on social media in which he bid farewell to the Italian club Napoli, which has defended its colors since 2013 on its way to becoming its historical scorer.

Martens appeared in the video with his son Ciro, addressing the fans of the southern club, saying, "Dear sons of Naples. I knew that this day would come, but I did not know how difficult it would be to say goodbye to this city that embraced me, loved and supported me in difficult and happy times as well."
