With two EC champions in the form of Albin Ridefelt and Martin Regborn plus Gustav Bergman - who took bronze in the middle distance on Saturday - the Swedish first team in the relay was the favourite.

But unexpected misses from Ridefelt, who was first out, it was instead Sweden's second team that came out on top.

At the first changeover, Henrik Johannesson led by over 20 seconds ahead of the rest of the team (2:30 ahead of Sweden 1).

Anton Johansson, silver medalist on Saturday, took over for the Swedish second team.

However, Johansson could not keep the gap down to the rest of the team as he was overtaken by Norway and Sweden 3, with Isac von Krusenstierna.

For the first team, it was also a struggle for Martin Regborn, who shortly after the change was almost four minutes behind the lead.

Sweden 2 and 3 at the top

The trio of Sweden-Norway-Sweden held together for the majority of the second leg.

But towards the end, both Johansson and von Krusenstierna dropped and were in second and third place, about a minute behind Norway at the switch to the final stretch.

However, Emil Svensk in Sweden 2 and Max Peter Bejmer in Sweden 3 were joined by Switzerland, who were hot on the heels of the Swedes halfway into the stretch after making up almost 1:30 from the switch.

At first, there was never any talk of the matter.

Norway took the gold by a clear margin.

Almost two minutes after their finish, Sweden 3 with Max Peter Bejmer in Sweden 3 came into second place with Switzerland in bronze.

Unexpectedly, Sweden's medal came from runners Viktor Svensk, Isac von Krusenstierna and Max Peter Bejmer.

Sweden 2 ran into fourth place, while the Swedish first team finished fifth.
