Mikael Ymer is in Washington for the ATP tournament.

Earlier during the tournament, former world number one Andy Murray, 36-ranked Russian Aslan Karatsev and 46-ranked Finn Emil Ruusuvuori were knocked out.

When it was time for the Swede's third quarter-final in an ATP competition of the season, he was pitted against the American Sebastian Korda.

He is ranked 54th, but still had a hard time and lost the first set against the Swede, ranked 115, with clear numbers.

The big star can wait in the semi-finals

In the second set, Korda bit back and turned around to win from 5–2 down.

Despite the five straight games won, it was Ymer who showed the way in the third decisive set.

The Swede won with the numbers 6–2, 5–7, 6–3.

Ymer is thus ready for his first semi-final in an ATP 500 competition, which is the level just below the grand slam and the Masters.

In the semifinals, the winner between Frances Tiafoe and Nick Kyrgios, who went to the final at Wimbledon, awaits.

There he lost to Novak Djokovic.
