As a junior, Albin Ridefelt won gold at the JVM in relay in 2009.

But as a senior there were many years where he was never close to any championship medals.

Last year, however, he took part and took WC gold in the relay.

Dramatic ending

Individually, however, it had never been better than an eighth place, which came at the WC's long-distance race in 2019.

But today it was a slightly sensational gold medal, at the middle distance of the Estonian EC.

The gold came after a dramatic finish.

Good ending

Another Swedish brawler, Anton Johansson, took a big lead early on.

He also led at the first TV control, when the doctor Ridefelt was 16 seconds behind.

But Ridefelt then went slightly faster - and after a nice final part of the race was 17 seconds ahead of Anton Johansson at the finish line.

- I can't believe it!

It's the kind of thing you dream about, so I don't know what to say, he tells SVT Sport.

- It was a great race.

It was very tight and technical all the way, so I immediately saw that it pays to run clean.

I was unsure in some places, so then I slowed down.

I felt at the end that I had done a good race, then it was really nervous.

“This is our day!”

In the end, it was a Swedish triple, when Gustav Bergman, after an early miss, made a good recovery and took WC bronze.

- I heard before that Anton was leading, and then I thought that this is our day!

We have done good preparation, and knew that this suits us well because we are very technical.

It's great fun that we can succeed together, says Albin Ridefelt.
