Yesterday, the Qatari team won the Gulf Youth Basketball Championship (under 18 years), after beating its Saudi counterpart (75-51) in the final match that brought them together at Al-Wasl Club Hall in Dubai, at the end of the tournament hosted by Dubai since last July 29 and qualified for the Asian Cup.

On the final day, the Bahraini national team won the bronze medal, after defeating Kuwait (55-45) in the match to determine the third and fourth places.

The Saudi national team, despite its loss, included Qatar in the Asian Cup, which will be held at the end of this month in Iran.

After the matches ended, the head of the UAE and Arab federations, Major General Ismail Al Gergawi, accompanied by the Secretary-General of the Basketball Association and the head of the Supreme Organizing Committee of the tournament Salem Al-Mutawa, and a number of heads of federations of the participating countries, members of the Board of Directors of the Basketball Federation and the Gulf Coordinating Committee, crowned Bahrain with bronze medals, and Saudi Arabia with silver. The Qatari team was the only one that did not suffer defeat in the tournament by winning all its matches. It started in the preliminary round by defeating Kuwait (64-51), and followed it in the second round by defeating Al-Abyad with a score (61-45), and then the victory in the third round. Bahrain (63-47), Saudi Arabia in the fourth round of the preliminary round (79-55), Oman at the conclusion of the preliminary (82-32), and overcoming the semi-final obstacle by defeating Bahrain (85-48).

In the final match, the Qatari team knew how to stop the danger of the keys to playing the Saudi team, which allowed “Al Annabi” the ability to gradually extend its rhythm during the first half, and gain the advantage in the results of the first and second quarters by (22-17 and 21-19), before continuing The mission was successfully completed during the second half, and the advantage again by the results of the third and fourth quarters (20-5 and 12-10), winning the match and the title.

The Qatari and Saudi teams have qualified for the Asian Youth Cup finals.
