Guardiola asks City players to be serious at the start of the season

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola, the English Premier League champion, said that his team must work hard and achieve good results from the start of the current season, after minor differences decided the title of the title in recent years.

City starts defending the title next Sunday at West Ham United of London.

City won the Premier League title by one point ahead of rival Liverpool last season and in the 2018-2019 season as well.

Guardiola said any stumble could see any team out of the title race by November, when the tournament is suspended to make way for the World Cup finals in Qatar.

In a press conference today, ahead of City's match with West Ham United, Guardiola said, "I feel like every time that this season will be more difficult... I don't think this season will be more difficult, but it is." The English Premier League is the best.

In (this year) there are two seasons.

One before the World Cup... We won the Premier League twice by one point and we know we can win 12 or 14 games in a row and Liverpool can do that too.

You have to be good from the start."

City want to sign a left defender after Oleksandr Zinchenko's departure to Arsenal, but until then Guardiola must use what he has.

"We have Joao Cancelo and Nathan Ake who can play in that position as well and we'll see. We still have time until the end of the month," the veteran coach said.

Defender Aymeric Laporte, 28, will miss Sunday's match after undergoing knee surgery.
