The French football championship makes its big comeback this Friday with a first poster opposing Lyon to AC Ajaccio, freshly promoted to Ligue 1. Paris Saint-Germain are logically favorites for the title at the end of a season particular, where four clubs will go down to Ligue 2.

This is something to delight lovers of the round ball.

This Friday, August 5 marks the great return of Ligue 1, the French football championship.

A 2022/2023 season which promises to be unprecedented but which should still see Paris Saint-Germain triumph.

With a new coach, Christophe Galtier, a new sports director, Luis Campos, young and promising recruits, like the Portuguese Vitinha and his trio of stars Mbappé, Messi, Neymar, PSG, which relies on a new more demanding and modest state of mind, should crush the competition and win an 11th championship title, an absolute record.

Behind is the traffic jam for places of honor.

However, Olympique Lyonnais seems promised on the podium with its new owner, the wealthy American John Textor, without a European Cup to play for but with the return of former executives like Alexandre Lacazette and Corentin Tolisso.

Four relegations, a season cut in two

The situation is more complex on the other hand for Olympique de Marseille, qualified for the Champions League, but very worrying during the preparation matches.

The situation is already explosive at OM where the players are struggling to digest the harsh methods of new coach Igor Tudor.

For the rest of the European places, Monaco, Rennes and Nice seem to stand out.

This season like no other will be cut in half by the World Cup to be held in Qatar from November 21 to December 18.

It will also offer matches on the weekend of January 1, a common occurrence in England but unprecedented in France.

Finally, four teams will go down to Ligue 2 in order to prepare for the reform of the championships which will lead to a Ligue 1 with 18 clubs instead of 20. Ajaccio, Auxerre, Toulouse or even Clermont will undoubtedly have to whip to stay in this elite.
