When Armand Duplantis cleared 6.21, it marked the end of a magical night in Eugene, USA, which had previously resulted in both World Cup gold and championship records.

That the record meant a lot to Duplantis was clear, as he showed joy with both several bounces up and down the running tracks and a forward somersault.

"Appeared in the moment"

Today, less than two weeks after the World Cup gold and the day before the Diamond League competition in Polish Silesia, he was asked at a press conference if it will be the same celebration every time he sets a world record in the future.

- Probably not, to be honest.

That was a spur-of-the-moment thing.

I had absolutely no plans to do a Volt.

I think that if you plan something like that, then you think too much.

I was too busy and had so much adrenaline, he replied, and continued:

- There was just so much emotion that I had to get it out somehow.

And a forward volte felt like a good thing, and it did the job in that situation.
