Last spring, it became clear that goalkeeper Oscar Alsenfelt would not be part of the Malmö Redhawks squad for the upcoming season.

Therefore, he chose to end his playing career.

- Continuing to be an ice hockey player elsewhere than in the Redhawks jersey was never an issue.

That's where I was going to end.

In the perfect world, I would have done it on my own terms, along with all of you out there.

But this business is what it is and I have landed in the club's decision.

Now I wish nothing but continued success for everyone involved, says Alsenfelt in a press release from Malmö Redhawks.

In total, Alsenfelt played eleven seasons in the SHL, initially in Växjö Lakers, Modo and Leksand.

But he spent the last seven in Malmö where, among other things, during the 2016/17 season he was named the league's best goalkeeper.

There was discussion about another role for Alsenfelt in Malmö, but instead he chose to jump at another opportunity.

From now on, he is sports director of SDHL, a role that Gizela Ahlgren left during the early summer.

- Women's hockey in Sweden is about as old as I am, and we are both on a growth curve where we will be able to benefit from each other.

I am very much looking forward to becoming part of SDHL and helping to take the league to the next step, says Oscar Alsenfelt in a press release from SDHL.

- We are very pleased that we were able to employ Oscar.

He has an elite hockey background and good studies and shows great drive for the development of women's hockey, says Agne Bengtsson, chairman of SDHL.
