For the second European Championship in a row, Sarina Wiegman has led her team to the EC title.

In 2017, she was the national team captain for the Netherlands when they won the EC gold on home soil.

Now, five years later, she has done it again.

This time with England.

- What we have done is incredible.

I knew we had England behind us, we saw that when we got to the arena.

Throughout the tournament we have had so much support from our supporters.

I am so proud of our team.

In a few days we will probably understand what we have done, says Wiegman at the press conference after the 2-1 victory.

"Very proud"

When Wiegman won European Championship gold with the Netherlands five years ago, her sister was there to cheer her on.

This time she wasn't.

Wiegman's sister passed away just before the championship.

And after the final whistle, the national team captain was seen kissing his wristband.

- I kissed this little bracelet that belonged to my sister who passed away during the pre-camp (before the EC), says Wiegman.

- She should have been here.

She went to every game and she had been very proud of me and I was very proud of her, she says.
