Jonna Sundling has an incomparable season behind her.

At the Olympics it was gold in the sprint, silver in the sprint relay and bronze in the relay.

In addition, the sprint star took six podium places in the World Cup, two of which were in the distance.

- Now that I think about it, it doesn't feel real.

I've never been close to it before.

If I've made the top ten, I've been really, really happy, says Sundling to SVT Sport.

Took a big step last year

The first distance podium of her career came in March when she finished third in the three mile race in Holmenkollen.

- I have taken small steps in distance skiing but have never been close to the podium.

To then be able to do it for the first time in a three-mile is actually completely insane, says Sundling and continues:

- It was a big step I took last year and it is not something I take for granted that I will do again this year.

I want to develop, I want to keep taking steps.

But what I did last year was something out of the ordinary.

How do you feel about running distance races next season as well?

- I love all distances and I strive to be an all-rounder, because I like it.

I have developed a taste for distance skiing after the season that was.

I'm working towards more distance skiing as well, it's not like I'll ski less of it if I keep the same level.

Want to keep the ladies' distances

Next season, ladies and gentlemen run the same distances.

This means, among other things, that the ladies replace the three-mile with a five-mile.

Sundling is not entirely happy with the change

- I personally would have liked to have remained in the distances that were.

It is above all the five miles that will be the biggest difference.

In three miles there are big time differences and two miles more, it's not that the difference gets smaller, but rather bigger.

Two miles is quite a lot more.
