The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reacted sportily to "Vladimir Putin" shouts from Turkish fans during Dynamo Kyiv's away win at Fenerbahce Istanbul in the Champions League qualifier.

"We advise Turkish fans to be on the winning side," Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko tweeted on Thursday.

Ukraine also defeated Russian President Vladimir Putin with Dynamo's 2-1 win.

"We did a good job in Turkey and we will do the same in Ukraine," said Nikolenko.

Dynamo Kyiv had beaten Fenerbahce in the second qualifying round for the Champions League the night before after a 0-0 draw in the first leg, which the club had to play away from home in the Polish city of Łodz because of the ongoing Russian war of aggression in Ukraine.

Ukraine has been repelling a Russian military invasion for about five months.

The Ukrainian ambassador to Turkey, Wasyl Bodnar, had condemned the behavior of Fenerbahce fans.

“Football is a fair game.

Dynamo Kyiv was stronger last night.

It is very sad to hear words of support from Fenerbahce fans for the killer and aggressor bombing our country," Bodnar wrote on Twitter.

Bodnar added that he was "grateful to the friendly Turkish people for supporting Ukraine and for their comments on the inappropriate actions of the fans."

According to Turkish media reports, the atmosphere had become tense after the opening goal by Kiev attacker Vitaly Bujalski (57th minute) and his subsequent celebration.

Videos on social networks clearly show the criticized chants of supporters.

According to Turkish media, Kyiv coach Mircea Lucescu refused to attend the post-match press conference.
