Atlético de Madrid fan club refuses to sign Cristiano Ronaldo

A group of fans of the Spanish football club, Atletico Madrid, called for not to sign Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, stressing that this contradicts the team's values.

The Manchester United striker returned to training on Tuesday, after missing pre-season preparations in Asia and Australia, and there were reports of his attempts to leave the English team because of his desire to participate in the Champions League.

Despite this, Ronaldo did not reach an agreement with any team to obtain his services, at a time when the name of Atlético de Madrid was linked to the contract with the star of his former rival, Real Madrid, and his return again to the Spanish capital.

The fans clearly indicated their dissatisfaction with the idea, while the Atlético de Madrid International Fans Association issued a statement on the matter.

"In light of the possibility of contracting Cristiano Ronaldo, if this is more than just a rumor without any basis, we express our absolute rejection of the presumption of his joining our club," the statement said.

He added, "The mentioned player represents a contradiction with the values espoused by our club, such as effort, generosity and humility, which are the things we want to be present in those who wish to defend our values."

"Even if a player in a state of deterioration like Cristiano Ronaldo will guarantee us the title, we will not accept that," the statement said.

"Unfortunately, he has no sense of belonging to Atletico Madrid, and as such he will not receive the appreciation and affection of the fans," the statement continued.

"As such, we ask the club to reject this signature, if at any time it has been considered."

Atlético Madrid fans were delighted with club president Enrique Cerezo's statements, in which he confirmed that moving to sign Ronaldo would be practically impossible, on Tuesday.
