Argentinian supporters have been recording audio and video messages since Saturday in tribute to Diego Maradona.

They will then be sent into space in the "Cosmic Kite" satellite, a nickname given to the footballer by a Uruguayan journalist.

“We love you and we will always remember you.

This new generation and all generations to come!

said a fan after recording his message at Moron Air Base, 40 km from Buenos Aires.

The idea was born from the story of Uruguayan journalist Victor Hugo Morales during the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

A satellite in orbit and a museum plane

During the quarter-final between Argentina and England, Diego Maradona scored two goals in quick succession.

“What planet are you from?

exclaimed Victor Hugo Morales on the radio when Maradona dribbled past half the England team to score the “goal of the century”.

Argentina also won the World Cup that year, making the player even more famous.

Fan videos and audios will be compressed on a hard drive, which will be sent into orbit.

The satellite will also contain a pair of the former star's football boots.

The collection of messages will last several months.

The date and location for the launch of the satellite have not yet been set.

Messages from all over the world will be collected for this project according to Maximiliano Fernando Gallo, one of the creators of the “Cosmic kite” project.

The man is also responsible for the Tango D10S project, the official name of an exhibition aircraft dedicated to Maradona presented on May 26 in Argentina, and which will attempt to land in Qatar during the 2022 World Cup.
