At least three members of the German team at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene are infected with the corona virus.

The German Athletics Association (DLV) confirmed on Thursday evening on request that in addition to the walker Christopher Linke, two people from the trainer and medical team were affected.

They were isolated and all contact persons were tested regularly.

Mohamed Mohumed, who after his slump in the 5000 meter lead on Thursday reported that his trainer fell ill with Corona during altitude training in Flagstaff (Arizona) and that he felt unwell in the morning, was tested in the evening without any findings.

He would have put the subject aside in the morning, he said, and not tested himself so as not to burden himself with the lead-up.

The association had initially announced that Linke was the first positive case "in the German team of athletes";

he too had felt uncomfortable.

Idriss Gonschinska, the chairman of the board of the association, corrected the impression on ZDF that he had sent as many athletes as possible to the World Championships in their eighties because this was rewarded with funding from the Federal Ministry of the Interior using the PotAS potential analysis.

Until Thursday only three athletes had been able to place themselves in the top ten.

In the pressure situation, a communicative irritation arose, Gonschinska said: "The attributes do not include the number of participants in European and world championships." The poor performance does not correspond to the claims and objectives of the association and will result in a relentless analysis.
