On June 25, the World Swimming Championships ended in Budapest and for Sarah Sjöström, the championship was a success.

The 28-year-old took two gold and one silver in three individual starts.

Already in mid-August, it's time for the next big championship: the European Championships in Rome.

- Tough.

You never run a championship this close.

It is very tough to reload, absolutely, says Sarah Sjöström to SVT Sport.

Due to the tight schedule, Sjöström has chosen to only compete in 50 meters freestyle and 50 meters butterfly, and thus waives the longer distances.

- Considering the training I do before 100 and before 50, it feels like I can maintain the form much better before 50 than before 100. So it feels good to have calmed down and know that there are only two 50 meter races to be done .

Do not think corona affected

Immediately after the WC, Sjöström tested positive for corona.

She had mild symptoms and was back in training after a week.

- The idea after the World Cup was that I would train for two or three days and then take five days off to recharge.

So I got really sick at the right time.

I think I missed two scheduled workouts that week.

But it's sad to be sick when you'm free, of course.

Do you think that coronary heart disease affects EM?

- I have not done any specific tests to see if it has affected but I do not think so.

I'm leaning on my feeling right now and it feels like everything is going as planned.

Despite coronary heart disease and short rest, Sjöström has a good feeling ahead of the European Championships, which begin on 11 August.

- I have run the World Cup and International Swimming League in recent years and am quite used to reloading.

Right now it feels okay.

What is your goal?

- I usually do not write down special goals that I have to manage, it usually works out anyway.
