He added that he had decided to refuse to meet with Nepomniachtchi due to lack of motivation.
Nepomniachtchi won the Candidates Tournament and was scheduled to face Carlsen in the chess crown match.
The Scandinavian grandmaster defended the title four times, the last time he beat Nepomniachtchi in 2021.
Earlier, Nepomniachtchi said that he would not want the match for the world chess crown to be turned into a show.
