FC Bayern's expensive shopping spree does not have to be over for a long time even after the imminent commitment of the new defense chief Matthijs de Ligt.

With a transfer fee of more than 120 million euros, the Munich-based company is one of the shopping champions in Europe, at least for the time being - and has further additions in mind.

“Everywhere the clubs continue to strengthen.

The race doesn't stop now," said CEO Oliver Kahn on Tuesday night at the team hotel in Washington, a 20-minute walk from the White House.

After Sadio Mané from Liverpool FC and Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui from Ajax Amsterdam, Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus Turin is now to join the Munich team, who are setting up a special brand.

Real Madrid spent around €80m on AS Monaco's Aurélien Tchouameni, while FC Barcelona paid over €100m on Leeds United's Raphinha and FC Bayern's Robert Lewandowski.

Manchester City also made a three-digit sum for former Dortmund player Erling Haaland and Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United.

Neuer: "There's a lot going on"

"There is a lot going on.

I mean, with us it's similar to other clubs, there's a lot going on," said goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and referred nationally to BVB, who signed Niklas Süle from Munich on a free transfer.

The Westphalians paid more than 85 million euros for Sébastien Haller (Ajax Amsterdam), Karim Adeyemi (Red Bull Salzburg), Nico Schlotterbeck (SC Freiburg) and Salih Özcan (1. FC Köln).

Neuer, who was only able to see the fire in the team hotel in shorts but certainly couldn't feel it due to the very cool temperatures due to the air conditioning, still sees FC Bayern in pole position in the fight for the championship.

"If not a lot happens to us with injuries and failures, then we'll be the favorites for the German championship again," said Neuer.

The departure of world footballer Lewandowski and those of the supplementary players Marco Roca and Omar Richards are also faced with top-class newcomers.

It was "difficult to say" whether he had already experienced such a cut when he started at Bayern Munich in 2011, said Neuer.

"The fact is that everything is still open.

It doesn't mean that we won't get anyone else."

Although Neuer primarily meant central defender de Ligt, the additions of Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig and Mathys Tel from Stade Rennes remain hot topics.

At Laimer, Munich is said to have submitted the offer for a transfer fee of 20 million euros.

And 17-year-old Tel has been a fan of Bayern for some time.

French talent on the way?

The Frenchman Tel from Stade Rennes is considered an outstanding striker in Europe.

The transfer fee for a 17-year-old is around 20 million euros.

"Tel is a very interesting player that we've been following for a long time.

A super strong talent.

The transfer window is still open for a while, so we'll just have a look," said Kahn, but he also slowed down a bit in poker for one of Europe's greatest storm talents.

“As far as offense goes, we have a lot of options.

We have to make sure that we don't overdo it now.

It all has to make sense.”

Munich also have many options in defense.

Benjamin Pavard is therefore the first candidate for sale.

"We're not thinking about giving up one or the other at the moment," said Kahn.

"At the moment we're not thinking in these categories because we're always looking at what else the players can play.

There's nothing better than having flexible players."

Kahn also praised the merits of de Ligt.

"He's tall, good in tackles and headers and has a very, very good build-up game," said the CEO.

"Although he's only 22 years old, he likes to lead loudly and is present.

These qualities are very, very important for us.” Since David Alaba's free transfer to Real Madrid a year ago, the Munich team has been looking for their new chief of defence.

If you get a "tick more stability" in the defensive area, "it's exactly this important piece of the puzzle," said Kahn.

With Lucas Hernández (80 million euros), who was signed by Atlético Madrid three years ago, de Ligt would form the most expensive defensive duo in the world.

Neuer is also looking forward to the commitment.

"This is really someone who can also lead, who has charisma," said Neuer.

De Ligt will not need "a long period of adjustment".

"Of course it's important that we have responsible players on the defensive - not only verbally, but also in terms of body language," said the national goalkeeper.

Alaba did this a lot.

As early as Wednesday, de Ligt could wear the FCB jersey for the first time in Bayern's first friendly on the week-long trip against DC United.
