When the second qualifying round for the Champions League began on Tuesday, Malmö FF played against Lithuanian Zalgiris.

The first match of the doubles match was played in Lithuania, where it was the home team that came to the first best goal chance.

The Englishman Mathias Oyewusi ran to a free position, but the shot went straight at an intoxicating Johan Dahlin in the Malmö goal.

This was followed by a solid onslaught from Zalgiris who had a handful of goal chances within a few seconds.

But a missed open goal, a ball cleared from the goal line and a brilliant save from Dahlin ensured that 0-0 continued to stand after the first ten minutes.

0-0 stood until the halftime break, but it did not take long before the first goal came.

With 49 minutes played, Zalgiri's left winger Fabien Ourega found an opening in the visitors' left side defense, but his shot was handled easily by the keeper.

That was not true for Malmö on Tuesday night.

Unlike Zalgiris, they did not have as easy to find the gaps in the opponents' defense, so even though they had some ball, the equalizer never came.

Towards the end of the match, when a forcing from Malmö was expected, it was rather Zalgiris who pressed to expand their lead.

To advance to the next qualifying round, and keep the chance to get to the Champions League group stage, a win is required in the return match in Malmö on 27 July.
