Moroccan Sofiane Bakkali won gold in the men's 3,000m steeplechase at the World Athletics Championships currently being held in Eugene, Oregon, USA, thus ending the long dominance of the Kenyans in the race, and Qatari Olympic champion Moataz Issa Barshim crowned the world jump gold, and scored a historic achievement.

The Olympic champion Al-Baqali crowned the race, clocking 8 minutes and 25.31 seconds, thus adding the gold to the silver he won in 2017 and the bronze he won in 2019.

Al-Baqali beat the Ethiopian Lamecha Girma by 0.88 seconds, who won the silver, and added it to his silver at the Tokyo Olympics.

As for Kenyan Conseslus Kipruto, who won the race in the past two editions of the world championship, he finished third with a difference of 2.61 seconds, and won the bronze medal.

Kenya has dominated the race title in the last 7 editions of the world championship, and this is the first time since 1991 that the first and second places in the race are devoid of Kenyan runners.

"I am very happy to win my first world title after the Olympic gold," said Bekkali. "The race was very difficult, it was very technical, and things were difficult. I did well on the last lap. I have good levels in the 400m competitions and I benefited from that".

What is gravity, anyway?
