FC Augsburg will not play the controversial friendly against Al-Duhail SC from Qatar.

According to its own statements on Friday, the Bundesliga soccer club canceled the game scheduled for Sunday.

An alternative opponent has been found in Bundesliga promoted FC Schalke 04.

This test as part of the Augsburg training camp will now take place on Sunday (4.30 p.m.) in Mittersill, Austria.

Schalke are preparing for the new season there.

"Make a mark"

“We were aware of the sensitivity of a friendly against a Qatari club.

Now, with Schalke 04, an alternative has arisen at short notice, so that we have sent this signal and called off the game against Al-Duhail," said Augsburg manager Stefan Reuter.

Fuggerstadt fans had criticized the club in advance of the planned test match against the Doha club.

Supporters accused FC Augsburg of "indifference" in the selection of the opponent.

Qatar has been repeatedly criticized for systematic human rights violations and the exploitation of migrants.

The government of the wealthy emirate has denied the allegations and is leading reforms in favor of foreign workers.
