Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at the General Sports Authority, stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation with priority sports federations, as they represent a key partner in achieving the goals of the Sports Sector Strategy 2032 aimed at expanding participation in the Olympic Games and enhancing the UAE’s opportunities to achieve International achievements.

This came during a meeting he held with Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Hasher Al Maktoum, President of the Shooting Federation, and Executive Director of the Federation Talal Hindi, in the presence of the Director of the Competitive Sports Department at the Authority, Abdulaziz Hassan, and the Director of the Sports Governance Department at the Authority, Omar Khalaf.

Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum said: “The authority, through priority sports, aspires to achieve the best commitment to the 50 principles aimed at consolidating the good global reputation of the UAE in various international forums, and to achieve this we are working with federations to develop comprehensive strategies aimed at strengthening Governance in administrative work and improving the mechanism of talent discovery and development in order to increase opportunities for participation and achieve achievements in the Olympic Games.

He continued, "The most prominent sporting achievement in the history of the UAE in the Olympic Games is still linked to the sport of shooting through the gold medal in the Athens 2004 Olympics, which was achieved by Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Hasher Al Maktoum. During the meeting, the forms addressed to the priority sports federations were presented, which include accurate details of the work mechanism within the federation, distinguished talents in each age group and plans for their development. The meeting also discussed the operational and technical requirements of the federation, studying the reality of the infrastructure and facilities available in shooting sports and ways to develop them in cooperation with the strategic partners represented by the Sports Coordinating Council, in addition to finding the best ways to cooperate with clubs to achieve the goals set in the development of athletes by adhering to advanced training programs.

Last June, the Sports Coordinating Council announced the priority sports of shooting, judo, fencing, archery, and athletics, after a comprehensive study that dealt with the reality of sports and talents in the UAE and opportunities to achieve Olympic achievements in it.

The first meeting in a series of meetings that brings together the authority with priority sports federations to develop federation strategies with the aim of creating sports champions capable of achieving continental and international achievements.


The federations are the authority's partner in achieving the goals of the sports sector strategy 2032, which aims to expand participation in the Olympics.


A series of workshops will be held between the Authority and the Federation to develop future strategic items and adopt a roadmap to achieve Olympic achievements.
