It was on the 57th lap that the accident occurred for Carlos Sainz, who was then in third place.

It was clearly heard that something in the Spaniard's car broke down and he had to go off the track and park the car, which then started to burn heavily.

Sainz remained in the car while the flames got bigger and it took a while before he could be rescued from the car.

But he eventually survived without injury.

The battle for the victory was then between Sainz's teammate, Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen who started in pole position.

But Ferrari's Leclerc had good speed on the track and was able to overtake Verstappen after 12 laps and take over the lead.

It was Leclerc who was in the lead for a long time, but towards the end he had problems with the car and Verstappen slowly but surely took time on the monegasque.

But the Ferrari driver was able to hold out all the way to the finish line and take home the victory in the race before Verstappen.

It was Leclerc's first victory in an F1 race since the Australian GP on April 10.

Mercedes Lewis Hamilton took third place.
