On Saturday, a cohort of Girondins de Bordeaux supporters took to the streets of the city to support this monument of French football, administratively demoted to National 1 because of its financial situation.

A demonstration that took place without the slightest overflow.

The decision of the DNCG, the financial policeman of French football, does not pass in Gironde.

The Bordeaux club, already sportingly relegated to Ligue 2, was administratively downgraded to National 1 (3rd division) due to its very worrying economic situation.

The club's supporters are struggling to envisage such an outcome which would remove the club's professional status.

For one day, Place Pey-Berland was transformed into a grandstand by Girondins supporters, all hand in hand for a full-throated survival march to demonstrate the club's popularity.

A demonstration that took place without any overflow, as former player Gernot Rohr explains at the microphone of Europe 1: “There were a few thousand supporters who were there, a few former players, the mayor. very good to see this solidarity around the Girondins, there is simplicity. We felt a cordial, peaceful atmosphere, with temperament, but without any violence".

The Olympic Committee as a last resort

To challenge this decision, the Girondins relied on the last resort: the Olympic Committee.

A last last stand, even if François Grenet, a former player, has no illusions.

“On paper, I am pessimistic because we were consulted twice by the financial control body, the DNCG, and it did not pass. I would say that we are in an unfavorable ballot, but why not? “, he declares.

We must now wait for the decision of the Olympic Committee, which will not be final.

In the event of a green light, the last word will go to the French Football Federation, which will decide whether the Bordeaux songs will still resonate in the professional world.
