Tunisia's Ons Jabeur made Wimbledon history on Thursday (July 7th) by becoming the first player from the African continent to reach the final of a Grand Slam tournament in the Open era.

The world number two qualified for the Wimbledon final by beating Germany's Tatjana Maria (103rd) 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

Tatjana Maria, 34, was forced to save three break points in game one but couldn't extend that resistance, losing serve in games three and seven before Ons Jabeur sealed the first set after a backhand along the German.

Tatjana Maria who led 3-1 in the second set and kept that advantage to equalize when Ons Jabeur sent a backhand into the net.

But the Tunisian finally lived up to her reputation as world number two by winning the third set.

At 27, the champion will try to win her first Major on Saturday, against the Romanian Simona Halep (18th), winner 2019, or the Kazakh Elena Rybakina (23rd).
