Their paths separate "due to strategic differences".

OGC Nice formalized this Wednesday the departure of its director of football, Julien Fournier.

The latter had found himself weakened by his recent disagreements with former coach Christophe Galtier, now at PSG, and club president Jean-Pierre Rivère.

He "can leave the club with the feeling of accomplishment", specifies the management of the Gym, which retains with "his now ex-director of football a deep mutual respect".

From now on, it is a collegial body which manages the Nice transfer window.

“Different Views”

Arrived in Nice in July 2011 as general manager, Fournier had already left the club in January 2019, in opposition to the management of the time, before finding a position there nine months later during the takeover by Ineos.

By dint of climbing the ladder, he even became director of football for the English company, also overseeing the clubs of Lausanne-Sport (2nd Swiss division) and RC Abidjan (1st Ivorian division).

But his disagreements with Christophe Galtier on the recruitment policy marked a first break.

It had been recorded by Jean-Pierre Rivère, during the presentation of the new coach, Lucien Favre, on June 27.

“We may have had different visions on strategy over the past two or three seasons.

He has a future that may be elsewhere than at OGC Nice, but he will always have my esteem, my friendship and my respect,” he said.
