The head of the UAE and Arab Basketball Federations, Major General Ismail Al Gergawi, confirmed the opening of new channels of communication with the International Federation (FIBA), with the aim of adopting Arab championships and courses within the international agenda.

Al-Gergawi said, in press statements, that “the recent successes, especially during the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, and the lack of stopping Arab activity, whether at the level of tournaments or administrative, training and arbitration courses, was behind making the Arab Union at the forefront of other regional federations, with testimony Everyone, including the International Federation.”

He added: "The presidency of the Arab Federation called on the Secretary-General of the Federation, Abdullah Shibli, to intensify contacts with the International Federation (FIBA), in order to officially adopt the Arab championships within the international agenda, in implementation of what was agreed upon during the General Assembly meeting held in Dubai last February on the sidelines of The Arab team championships for men, and the English language has been adopted along with the Arabic language on the website of the Arab Federation, so that the International Federation is aware of the tournaments, studies and courses that we organize in preparation for their adoption internationally.”

In a related context, Al Gergawi confirmed the launch of the Arab League's activities in the new season, starting from July 14, with the start of the youth teams championship hosted by the Egyptian capital Cairo until 22 of this month, with the participation of the teams of the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Algeria and Egypt.

Al Gergawi pointed out that the Cairo Championship represents the best preparation for the UAE national team players before the Asian qualifiers for juniors from the Gulf region are due.
