She broke through big in 2021 by taking bronze at the European Championships.

The medal was Swedish swimming's first since 2012 and through that result she then qualified for the Olympics in Tokyo.

Once there, she missed the final by the smallest possible margin.

- I had no idea where I was anywhere, I had super fun.

When I realized that I was so close and stumbled on the finish line, I thought it was happening for a reason, says Emma Gullstrand, who jumps at a height of one and three meters, to SVT Sport.

"Became stress and pressure"

When it was time to start a new season, she had difficulty with motivation when such big goals were met in a short time.

And when new championships approached, in 2022 now awaits the World Cup and then also the European Championships, she felt the press after last year's fine results.

- It's easy to think that people think "she has been to the Olympics and is great".

But they may not think so, but you yourself believe it.

I felt that there was stress and pressure.

"Has put all performance goals behind me"

She describes the path to an international sports career a bit like a roller coaster.

- It's not straight, it's not.

There are many up and down and many mountains to climb, says Gullstrand.

Since February, she lives and trains in the USA at Miami University in Florida.

Together with the coaches there and the Swedish coach Brian Bungum, she backed the band to find the right feeling before the World Cup.

- I have put all performance goals behind me.

Now I focus on my hopes, on the details and the changes I have made and on making everything as good as possible.

And with some time left until the World Cup in Budapest, Emma Gullstrand is on the right track.

- I'm a little nervous, but I think it will go well, if I think in the right way and take one jump at a time.
