Olympic Games Alejandro Blanco accuses an "inappropriate policy" and "lies" of the failure of the 2030 Games project
Criticism "Anti-Catalanism has won": The Government accuses Aragon and the Government of preventing the joint candidacy for the Olympic Games
The Aragón technicians gave their approval almost without debate to the distribution of the 2030 Winter Games
The echoes of the failure of the
candidacy of Aragon and Catalonia to host the 2030 Winter Olympics
continue .
If during these days there have been accusations and arguments between the main protagonists of the Spanish attempt to host the event, now it is the president of
the Spanish Olympic Committee
,
Alejandro Blanco
, who is in the eye of the hurricane.
According to information published by '
El Confidencial
', Blanco secretly negotiated the joint candidacy of both Autonomous Communities with the former president of the Generalitat
Artur Mas
and with a high-ranking official from the governments of
Torra and Aragonès
who is charged in several cases of corruption.
In addition, at the meeting, held in November 2019, the president of the COE requested
400,000 euros
that were going to be used to make "opaque" contracts, as the newspaper assures, which has had access to the report of the
Civil Guard
in the summary of the Voloh case, in which the diversion of funds to the independence movement is being investigated.
The
meeting between Blanco and Mas
would have taken place only a few weeks after the series of protests that paralyzed Catalonia after the condemnation of the protagonists of the referendum and the proclamation of the
Catalan Republic in 2017
.
Three days ago,
Blanco strongly attacked Javier Lambán
, president of the Community of Aragón, assuring that he had decided to break the agreement.
"The COE sent a letter to the IOC for a joint Games between Catalonia and Aragon before the Tokyo Games. They were accompanied by three letters, from the President of the Government,
Pedro Sánchez
; from the President of the Generalitat,
Pere Aragonés
, and from the President of the Community of Aragon,
Javier Lambán
", explained Blanco.
"There was an agreement, but then President Lambán decided to break it. Let each one assume his responsibilities," he added.
"Lambán sent me -continued the leader- a letter in which he said he disagreed with the distribution that the technical commission had agreed to. The snow proposal, the subject of discussion, was made by the Aragón technicians".
"Instead, when the politicians came in, everything broke down," he added.
Blanco, hurt, lamented how this adventure has ended because of what it meant.
"We didn't have the best possible technical project. We had to move the jumps, for example. But we had pillars. On the one hand, the regeneration of a territory, the Pyrenees. On the other, because
it was a sports project that was a meeting point between Spain, Aragon and Catalonia, where they could sit down to talk and listen to society without political tensions
. That gave this candidacy a lot of strength. It intended to unite. It was not a political project, but one of civil society, businessmen, presidents of SMEs...", he explained, to conclude: "Our image before the IOC has been improvable. I hope we have learned".
