The event will be held in Chengdu, China from September 30th to October 9th, and 40 teams of men and women will challenge for the World Table Tennis Championships team championship.

Each of the 40 teams of men and women will be divided into 8 groups of 5 teams each.

Each group will play a round-robin match, with the top 2 teams advancing to the knockout rounds.

  Due to the cancellation of the 2020 World Table Tennis Championships in Busan, it has been four years since the last time the Team World Table Tennis Championships were held.

In 2018, the Chinese team won the men's and women's team championships in Halmstad, Sweden.
