Sophie Hansson had the sixth best time when she advanced to the final in the 100 meter breaststroke on Sunday.

In the distance, the Swede already has a silver at the WC in short track and above all the EC gold from 2021.

In Monday's World Cup final, Hansson had course seven, a final that was described in advance as wide open.

In the turn, she was five, and it went fast from the start.

 - Maybe the outcome was a little too harsh for her to have the strength, says SVT's expert commentator Lars Frölander.

In the finish she had lost a place and became sixth.

Benedetta Pilato, Italein took the gold at 1.05.93, Hansson's time was 1.06.39.

- I knew that if I were to be involved and fight, I would need to open quickly, Hansson says to SVT Sport.

"Stings a little extra"

It was not just Hansson who crooked after the turn.

The race gave no sensational times in the finish and Hansson's personal record of 1.03.50 was enough for a gold.

- My goal was to come here and fight for the medals, I'm close, she says to SVT Sport.

- But I do not really have the swimming that I had last year, it hurts a little extra to see that one's personal record had taken gold here.

It is frustrating that they do not work when you want them the most, she says.
