Hwang Seon-woo set a new Korean record of 1:44.47 in the men's 200m freestyle final at the 2022 FINA World Championships held at Duna Arena in Budapest, Hungary, placing second behind Romania's David Popovich (1:43.21). occupied.



Hwang Seon-woo shortened his Korean record (1:44.62) in last year's qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics by 0.15 seconds in less than a year.

Hwang Seon-woo was the second Korean athlete to become a medalist after Park Tae-hwan in the management event of the long course World Championships, and achieved the best performance ever in the 200m freestyle event.



Park Tae-hwan won a gold medal in the men's 400m freestyle at the 2007 Melbourne Games in Australia and added a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle.

In the preliminary round, Seon-Woo Hwang took second overall with a time of 1:45.79 in the preliminary round, and in the semi-final of 16 people, she split the tide at 1:45.46 and she advanced to the final 3rd overall.



Only 8 Korean athletes, including Hwang Seon-woo, have competed in the long course world championship management event, and only Park Tae-hwan has reached the final in the men's 200m freestyle.

Seon-woo Hwang was placed in lane 3 in the final, and 18-year-old Popovich, who shortened the world junior record held by Sun-woo Hwang in the semi-final to 1:44.40 and ranked first overall, was placed in lane 4 next to him.



In Lane 2, Eliza Winnington (Australia), the 400m freestyle gold medalist in this event, and Tom Dean in Lane 5 competed fiercely for the lead.



Hwang Seon-woo jumped into the water the fastest with a starting reaction speed of 0.61 seconds.

Popovich raced from 2nd place up to the 100m section, then came first and set a new world junior record again, leading Hwang Seon-woo by 1 second 26 to win a gold medal.



On the other hand, Choi Dong-yeol, who competed in the men's 50m breaststroke semi-final, placed ninth with a record of 27.34, and was unable to reach the final, where eight people competed by one ranking difference.



Choi Dong-yeol is 0.14 seconds behind 8th place Filippi Auves da Silva (Brazil, 27.20).



Choi Dong-yeol's personal best was a Korean record of 27.09 seconds set at the Jeju Halla Cup National Championships in November last year.



In the preliminary round, Choi Dong-yeol took the touchpad in 27.55 seconds and finished 12th overall and advanced to the semi-finals.
