Arsenal signs new long-term contract with Nikita
Arsenal Football Club announced today that it has signed a new long-term contract with striker Eddie Nikita, ending rumors about the player's future with the team.
This came a few weeks before the end of Arsenal's contract with Nikita, 23, who has been at the club since he was 14, according to the British news agency BA Media.
Nikita's name was associated with other clubs, including Crystal Palace, where it was reported that he made an offer that was rejected last January, as well as West Ham, but the player decided to continue with Arsenal, which is coached by coach Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal also announced that Nikita will wear, as of next season, the shirt number "14" that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang recently left, and was previously worn by top scorer Thierry Henry.
"I am happy that Eddie is staying with us. He represents the team and all the values of the club," Arteta told Arsenal's website. "We are very happy that he has extended his contract, and now we have to work and continue to develop this incredible talent and character."
