And another record for “Super Frenchie”!

Matthias Giraud, his real name, became the first man on Saturday to set off from the Aiguille du Goûter (Haute-Savoie) in ski base jump.

Already holder since June 2019 of the highest jump made in this extreme discipline, very close to the summit of Mont-Blanc (4,359 m), he signed a new unprecedented performance of choice.

He started from the Dôme du Goûter (4,304m altitude) skiing an 80m serac perched above the rock face of the Aiguille du Goûter and the direct western corridor.

Then he took off at 4,000 m, and he opened his parachute to fly between the Aiguille du Goûter and the Aiguille de Bionnassay.

“Transforming childhood dreams into reality”

The incredible video of his performance, posted on YouTube on Monday, is the culmination of a project that "Super Frenchie" has had in mind for 10 years.

The difficulty was to find “the perfect niche”, so that all the conditions were met for his safety.

“It was a turbulent flight until landing below the Goûter refuge, on the north flank of the glacier, says the person concerned, who spent his childhood in Saint-Gervais (Haute-Savoie).

I grew up skiing in front of Mont-Blanc.

I've admired it all my life and even got it tattooed on my back after my jump in 2019."

The special connection between Matthias Giraud and Mont-Blanc therefore reached a new milestone on Saturday.

“Completing several first base jump ski descents in this massif has transformed my childhood dreams into reality.

It's a great moment of pride”, underlines the one who claims “a modern and creative approach to mountaineering”.

His creativity may quickly surprise us again.
