One small step for Spain, one giant leap for equality.

The president of the Spanish football federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, made a commitment on Tuesday to the women's national team: from now on, the players will receive as much as their male colleagues in terms of bonuses and image rights.

This agreement comes into effect from the Euro, which begins on July 6 in England, and runs until 2027. It was signed in the presence of Alexia Putellas, Patricia Guijarro and Irene Paredes, three major players of the selection.

“It's a historic day, rightly welcomed Paredes.

On behalf of all the players, I want to thank the effort of the RFEF and Luis Rubiales.

"The agreement we are signing today is at the forefront of the world of football," Rubiales said.

We have signed a five-year agreement that will allow us to reach the next World and European Championships and hopefully the Olympics.

We must promote women's sport, we strive to bridge the gap with men's sport.
