Defending champion Max Verstappen has extended his world championship lead in Formula 1 with a win at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The 24-year-old Dutchman beat his Red Bull team-mate Sergio Pérez from Mexico in Baku on Sunday.

Third was the Brit George Russell in the Mercedes.

Charles Leclerc was unable to use his pole position and retired after a technical defect in his Ferrari, as did stable rival Carlos Sainz.

British press reviews

The Sun:

"For Ferrari, the implosion of the Italian team - after such a strong start to the season that saw them produce the fastest car on the line-up - is the talking point.

If there's one thing we've learned about Formula 1's most famous team, it's that they know how to screw things up.

They haven't won a title since 2008, but they are the undisputed champions at scoring own goals."

Daily Mail:

Lewis Hamilton says he experienced the most painful race of his career at Baku... but if the bouncing horror of his scrap Mercedes box was at the root of the discomfort, then his 37 years were of little help when he himself fought for fourth place"

"The sheer Ferrari horror in Baku!

First Sainz retires with brake problems, a little later Charles Leclerc, who was leading at the time, has to give up with engine damage.

Zero points for the Scuderia.

What a debacle.

One's sorrow, another's joy.

Red Bull does not report any problems, can fit fresh tires at will to achieve the one-two.
