She caught the thief alone and handed him over to the police... an Olympic champion who pays the price in the end!

Poland's three-time Olympic hammer thrower Anita Woldericz was injured while trying to stop a thief from stealing her car.

"I caught the thief alone and handed him over to the police. Unfortunately, I paid the price with a muscle injury," Woldericz said on Instagram.

The 36-year-old will undergo surgery on Monday due to her injury, while she is looking forward to winning her fifth world title at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, from July 15-24.

The picture is not yet clear about whether she will be fit to participate in the tournament or not.

It is worth noting that Wolderizch, who last year became the first female track and field athlete to win three consecutive Olympic golds in the same competition, is considering switching to another sport when she retires from hammer throwing.
