Polemic within polemic.

In France, unless requisitioned by justice, the images shot by surveillance cameras are systematically destroyed after seven days.

It's the law.

This is what happened to the videos shot by the Stade de France cameras during the Champions League final on Saturday May 28.

While the police are accused of having used violence, that robberies and assaults have been committed and that supporters of the Liverpool and Real Madrid teams have started to file complaints, no image has been kept, said we learned during hearings by the Senate on Thursday.

This "leads to believe that compromising evidence has been knowingly allowed to be destroyed", according to the leader of the senators LR Bruno Retailleau.

"We are heading straight for a state scandal", with an "intentional act" to "make evidence disappear, which is undoubtedly evidence for the prosecution", he abounded on RFI.

“I was immediately amazed, I found it to be very serious”, commented David Assouline, PS vice-president of the Senate law commission, Friday on franceinfo, denouncing an “incredible lack of coordination of the prefect of police and political leaders.

"A destruction of evidence by inaction"

"It's called covering your tracks," reacted Marine Le Pen, RN candidate for the legislative elections in Pas-de-Calais, on BFMTV and RMC: "I dare not imagine that our leaders are incompetent to the point of not having immediately, given the echo that this Stade France affair had, (…) asked that the surveillance videos be sent to them.

So it's voluntary" and "it's a destruction of evidence by inaction," she added.

The former presidential candidate attacked the Ministers of the Interior Gérald Darmanin and Justice Eric Dupond-Moretti: "the fact that there is no video surveillance makes it possible to cover up their enormous lies which were revealed yesterday in the context of the hearing", she said, referring in particular to "the fable of the 40,000 people who had counterfeit notes".

LREM defends itself

But for the delegate president of the LREM group at the Assembly Aurore Bergé, "we have enough elements which allow us to have an investigation", in particular images "shot multiple times, and by journalists, and by supporters ".

“The images, you have them, they exist, and we have a lot of testimonies and images which should nevertheless allow to enlighten” the investigators, she estimated on RMC.

Asked whether she nevertheless regretted the disappearance of some of them, Aurore Bergé argued that it was up to the police and the justice system "that we will have to ask the question".

Why did Gérald Darmanin then, from the days following the incidents, reject the responsibility on the English supporters?

He then "acknowledged the different responsibilities" during his hearing before the Senate, argued the MP about the minister's mea culpa.
