Despite initial losses against both the USA (1–6) and Canada (1–3), Sweden's U18 girls had the chance to take second place in the seeded group before the last group match against Finland.

For them to happen, two things were required (see fact box below for more info):

1) Victory against Finland with at least two goals.

2) That Canada lost to the United States.

However, Sweden did not reach all the way forward.

Canada did lose the match against the USA, but when Finland made it 3-2 five minutes into the third period, it was a real uphill for the Swedish girls.

However, they made a valiant effort to score the required goals.

First Emma Pfeffer set the equalizer after 17.50 and then Jenna Raunio made it 4-3 with eight seconds left to play.

But they never came closer than that and now the Czech Republic, who won Group B in superior style, are waiting in the quarterfinals.

However, the victory was not entirely in vain.

- It was good for the team morale to get this win after they lost and caught up.

It will be very important for the continuation of the tournament, says SVT's expert commentator Maria Rooth.
