The People of Determination team won two medals (gold and bronze) in the first competitions of the Paralympic Shooting World Cup, currently being held in the French city of Chataro, until January 12, with the participation of 270 male and female players representing 52 countries.
The tournament is the first international qualifier for the World Championship, which will be hosted in Al Ain next November.
Saeed Al Balushi and Aisha Al Muhairi managed to win the mixed doubles gold in the air pressure rifle competition from standing position (SH2), while the pair consisting of Abdullah Al Ahbabi and Aisha Al Shamsi won the bronze in the same competition, which was approved for the first time in the history of Paralympic shooting competitions.
The road to the gold medal witnessed a fierce struggle between the national team and its Italian counterpart, who advanced by a large difference of points at the beginning of the finals by a difference of seven points, which led the coach of the team to request a time-out to guide the players, and relieve the tension that afflicts them with the start of the competition competitions. , due to the lack of experience of the players in international competitions, and this resulted in a high level of performance, and a tie was achieved at the end of the competition, so that the deciding shot was invoked to determine the champion of this competition, so that the historical golden Emirates recorded in the competitions of the standing air rifle pairs.
For his part, the Executive Director of the People of Determination Sector at the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination and head of the delegation, Abdullah Al Kamali, said, “The great support that the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination receives from our wise leadership, headed by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, It enabled it to achieve great successes, especially in the sports field, and to be nominated to host important international sporting events, including the Paralympic Shooting Championships, which will be held in Al Ain next November. In turn, the player Saeed Al Balushi expressed his great joy in obtaining the gold medal in his second foreign participation, and said, "The great care and attention that the people of determination in the UAE enjoy from our wise leadership requires us to make a continuous effort to raise the flag in all international forums in which we participate. The real handicap is the inability to think of repaying the favor of this generous country.”
