The FBI's investigation into Larry Nassar started in 2015, but only a year and a half later was the national team doctor arrested in gymnastics.

During that time, Nassar managed to commit more sexual assaults and he was sentenced to a total of 360 years in prison for his crimes.

The FBI's handling of the investigation has received much criticism and the agency's agents have previously been investigated for the criticized work.

As early as April, 13 of Nassar's victims demanded $ 10 million in damages from the FBI.

Now more of Nassar's other victims are joining the demand - which is now significantly higher.

The victims are demanding more than a billion dollars, equivalent to about 9.8 billion kronor, because the FBI failed to stop Larry Nassar.

90 people

Around 90 people are participating in the claim for damages, including Olympic gold medalists Simone Biles, Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney, according to Manly, Stewart & Finaldi, a law firm in California.

A lawsuit may follow, depending on how the FBI responds to the claim.

"If the FBI had just done its job, Nassar would have been stopped before he had the chance to abuse hundreds of girls, including me," said former University of Michigan gymnast Samantha Roy.

Large damages

The American Gymnastics Federation, the US Olympic Committee and the organizations' insurance companies have already been sentenced to pay damages to the victims totaling $ 380 million (close to SEK 3.5 billion).

Nassar's former employer Michigan State University came in 2018 settled with 332 women and girls for damages totaling $ 500 million.
