    Update on the workforce.

Will Gérard Lopez's phone hold up?

Since the relegation of the club in Ligue 2, it heats up very seriously.

The owner and president of the Girondins de Bordeaux has indeed been on all fronts in recent weeks, with the focus on a crucial meeting for the future of the club: the passage in front of the DNCG, next Tuesday.

In parallel with this file, the Navy and White must also move forward on the sporting level with a resumption of training, on June 23, and the Ligue 2 championship, five weeks later, on July 30.

Admar Lopes, the technical director who has been confirmed in his role, is on the front line.

In agreement with his management, he has already decided to renew David Guion as coach.

A tentative agreement with Fortress and King Street

But the hottest issue remains that of finances at the Girondins de Bordeaux.

According to information from

20 Minutes,

Gérard Lopez has finally reached an agreement in principle with his creditors, the American investment funds Fortress and King Street, to complete his business plan for Ligue 2. The agreement is not yet complete this Wednesday evening because discussions are continuing on certain details.

The Hispano-Luxembourgish businessman would like, for example, to obtain a partial (50%) and temporary (with a return to better fortune clause) waiver of the debt (50 million euros) when his creditors do not offer him, at this point, only a freeze part of it.

“In reality, it is not so important because it is above all a question of writing and classification vis-à-vis the DNCG”, explains someone close to the file.

This could still be important, because it is really a question of playing on the debt ratio.

A rate that the financial policeman of French football is monitoring very closely since it has repercussions on the state of the club's equity.

The good news in all this is that the transfer of Aurélien Tchouaméni (Monaco) to Real Madrid (80 million euros + 20 million bonus) and surely that of Jules Koundé (Sevilla) in the coming weeks will allow to reduce this debt.

The Girondins had negotiated resale percentages for their two nuggets.

For the first, it was 10% on the capital gain (and not 20%).

The Girondins therefore hope to receive a nice check for 11 million euros in total (with training compensation amounting to three million euros and bonuses).

Beyond the debt, the management must plug a hole of 40-45 million euros to pass the DNCG in order to succeed in its "landing" as we say in the jargon and to complete the season.

For that, it is counting on the parachute of 7 million euros from the LFP for demoted clubs and the 8.5 million euros from the CVC investment fund, which is about to make its arrival in French football.

It also plans to sell for 22 million euros by June 30 during the summer transfer window.

Finally, the company Jogo Bonito, owner of the club and of which Gérard Lopez and his associates are shareholders, will reinject 10 million euros.

For next season, the Girondins should present a provisional budget of 40-41 million on June 14.

Guion practically halved his salary

If all goes well financially, the leaders will finally be able to fully focus on the athlete.

In the meantime, they still advance their pawns.

At the end of last week, they made the decision to extend David Guion's contract even if he failed in his maintenance mission.

If Gérard Lopez and Admar Lopes have studied several tracks (Sacramento, Furlan, Battles, Daf, Der Zakarian…), this choice can be explained for several reasons.

First of all, the former Stade de Reims coach, who notably refused an offer from Saint-Etienne, offered himself to practically halve his salary (90,000 euros last season) according to our information.

It was not this decision that tipped the choice of his direction but his gesture is not insignificant when we know the financial situation of the club.

Then, David Guion has never had any problems with the current management because he accepts that it has a certain right of scrutiny over his sporting choices.

Gérard Lopez, for example, would have been scalded by the fact of seeing the young and promising Sékou Mara chain the matches on the bench at the end of the season.

He told several relatives that he would be much more present on a daily basis from next season…

Other arguments also played in favor of the Le Mans coach.

Bordeaux was indeed looking for a coach who has already made a comeback (he did so with Stade de Reims in 2018) and who is not afraid to throw young people into the deep end.

For lack of financial means, the Girondins will surely rely on a very rejuvenated workforce next season in Ligue 2. "We also wanted a little stability because there will be a lot of movement at the level of the players, advances a member of the direction.

At least he already knows a little about the club and how we work, we will save a little time on that.

The workforce will change very quickly

This is the huge project this summer on the banks of the Garonne, rebuilding a workforce to try to go up next season in Ligue 1. As revealed

20 Minutes,

the Girondins only intend to keep for the moment a ten elements (Lacoux, Mara, Sissokho, Ignatenko, Gregersen, Briand, Kidjé, Bokele, Bakwa, Mensah and Ahmedhodzic) for around twenty departures (Costil, Traoré, Adli, Marcelo, Malbec, Mangas, Pembélé, Dilrosun, Elis , Hwang, Oudin, Onana, Maja, Niang, Zerkane, Fransergio, Kwateng, Baysse, Mexer).

With this in mind, it is also very likely that the club will create a loft as soon as training resumes to make it clear to some that they no longer have a place in the Château du Haillan and must find a door to exit.

Anyway, the Marine et Blanc will have to act very quickly with this obligation to sell for 22 million euros by June 30.

The first to leave will surely be the few market values of the workforce.

The Girondins are discussing, for example, with the English club of Leeds for Alberth Elis, as indicated by

L'Equipe.

Junior Onana is followed very closely in Italy (Milan, Torino, Sassuolo), Germany (Schalke), England (Crystal Palace) and France (Nantes and Lens).

As for Ui-jo Hwang, there are interests from Nantes, Montpellier and Marseille but the player preferred to join Germany or England to further his career.

Bordeaux is claiming 5 million euros for its top scorer, one year from the end of his contract.

The club also have a 4 million euro offer from Cincinnati (USA) for Stian Gregersen, but the management would like to keep their Norwegian defender, while the player is considering this opportunity.

Finally, there is no shortage of applicants for Sékou Mara who is currently shining with the France U20 team.

In the opposite direction and before talking about possible arrivals, the Girondins would like to exercise the purchase options of two players: Gideon Mensah and Anel Ahmedhodzic.

For the first, it should quickly be done.

For the second, it will depend above all on sales in the coming weeks.

According to information from

20 Minutes,

the club is also preparing to make a financial offer to Josuha Guilavogui, on loan for the past six months from the German club Wolfsburg.

But there is little chance of seeing the midfielder return to Haillan, because he would then have to make a huge financial effort for that.

On the other hand, Admar Lopes has already reached an agreement in principle with Yoann Barbet.

Trained at the club, the former defender of Brentford and Queens Park Rangers should now wait for the passage before the DNCG to give his final agreement.

The technical director of the Girondins is also interested in two attackers free of any contract, the ex-Angevin Stéphane Bahoken and the former Nantes player Kalifa Coulibaly.
