THW Kiel and Füchse Berlin continued their duel for the remaining place in the Champions League.

The record champions won the Bundesliga north derby against HSV Hamburg 29:22 (16:8) in their own hall on Sunday and thus consolidated second place.

The Berliners remain third after 35:25 (18:15) over TSV GWD Minden.

The game in the Kiel Arena, which was sold out with 10,285 spectators for the first time in three years, was overshadowed by the injury to THW player Sander Sagosen.

The Norwegian twisted his ankle in the ninth minute and had to leave the field with a suspected fracture in his left ankle.

"I'm sad.

We don't know the diagnosis, but it looked really bad," said Kiel's captain Domagoj Duvnjak at first.

Plaster for sagos

As the THW later announced, the suspicion of a fracture in the left ankle was confirmed.

The Norwegian also suffered a tear in the syndesmosis ligament.

"With this type of injury, Sander will be out for between six and eight months," said team doctor Frank Pries.

The foot was placed in plaster for temporary immobilization.

In terms of sport, Kiel ensured clear conditions from the start.

THW left winger Rune Dahmke extended the eight-goal advantage to 22:10 in the 41st minute.

Hamburg circle player Manuel Späth completed his 500th Bundesliga game.

The foxes initially had problems against Minden, who were threatened with relegation.

At the beginning of the second half, the East Westphalians were still within striking distance at 17:18 (32nd).

With two goals in a row, the eleven-time Berlin goalscorer Hans Lindberg ensured a clear lead for the first time, which was continuously extended.

Fourth-placed SG Flensburg-Handewitt suffered a 25:30 (13:14) defeat at TBV Lemgo Lippe.

Hampus Wanne and Teitur Einarsson did not travel to Lipperland with the North Germans, who were already under pressure.

TSV Hannover-Burgdorf celebrated a 28:27 (10:13) victory against HC Erlangen.
