Carlos Tevez put away his crampons.

The Argentine striker, former star of both Manchester clubs and Juventus, announced on Saturday that he was retiring, at 38, a year after leaving Boca Juniors, the club of his debut.

“I'm retiring, it's confirmed.

I've been offered a lot of offers, in the United States and also in Argentina, but as a player, it's over.

I gave it my all and I'm leaving in peace,” Tevez told América TV.

The player had been without a club since his decision in June 2021 to leave Boca Juniors for family reasons.

He had lost his adoptive father, a victim of Covid-19, in February 2021.

A Champions League in 2008

Tevez, selected 76 times with the Albiceleste, played in two World Cups (2006, 2010) and played in three Copa America finals (2004, 2007, 2015).

He was Olympic champion in 2004.

In club, this very technical and powerful striker, endowed with a great sense of goal, won the Champions League with Manchester United (2008), three English Championships - two with the Red Devils (2008, 2009) and a with Manchester City (2012) – and two Italian championships with Juventus (2014, 2015).

Before leaving for Europe, he had won the Copa Libertadores with Boca (2003).

The player further expressed his desire to become a manager of a club.

"I feel equipped to lead a great project and I continue to work for it," he explained, adding that he was working with former Argentine field hockey coach Carlos Retegui.
