With the ongoing debate over the chaos at the Stade de France at the Champions League final in Paris, the French government has expressed its regret to British fans.

President Emmanuel Macron and his government are saddened that fans could not have seen the game as planned, government spokeswoman Olivia Grégoire said after Wednesday's cabinet meeting.

We also regret the processes around the stadium, including the aggression and theft that fans have been subjected to.

"I apologize," said Grégoire.

"Can we do things better - yes," emphasized the spokeswoman.

Banger look at Olympia

President Macron is concerned with creating transparency around the chaos of admission last Saturday and improving processes.

Grégoire said that two studies were also being carried out with a view to the 2024 Olympic Games in order to optimize both security in the stadium and the processes in the surrounding area and transport.

As the broadcaster BFMTV reported with reference to the President's environment, he is apparently angry with Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, who sees the blame for the chaos primarily with others and publicly justified the controversial police operation.

"Gérald Darmanin is an interior minister who has the full confidence of the president," said the government spokeswoman.

The French Senate wanted to question the interior minister and sports minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra on Wednesday afternoon about the fiasco.

The police in Paris registered more than 100 arrests and 230 injuries around the final between Liverpool FC and Real Madrid, which the Spaniards won 1-0.

The European football union UEFA explained the chaos at the entrance to the high number of fans without valid tickets and has commissioned an independent investigation report.
