Holger Rune is the rising star of tennis and the revelation of Roland-Garros.

This very young player, aged 19, is the first Dane to rise so far in the competition.

He surprised everyone by beating last year's finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas in the round of 16, and will face Norway's Casper Ruud in the quarter-finals.

This year, the young Holger Rune is the prodigy of Roland-Garros.

The 19-year-old qualified for the French Open quarter-finals on Monday after beating one of the competition's favorites, Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas.

He becomes the first Dane to go so far in the Parisian tournament.

Despite his young age, the junior-looking player lacks neither confidence nor ambition: "I take the matches one after the other. Then we'll see if I'm the best in the world or not. It's a difficult question. In any case, if I play my game, I believe that I am able to beat almost anyone on the circuit", he explains, confident, at the microphone of Europe 1.

"He's really going forward"

Holger Rune was ranked 511th player in the world at the end of 2020. Now, he is 40th in the ATP ranking, which lists the best male tennis players.

Philippe Veille, his agent, has been following him for five years and he immediately spotted exceptional qualities in this player, especially on the ochre.

"Clay is still a surface he likes. He won Roland-Garros junior at 16. It's quite rare to win this tournament at that age. He was someone who wasn't defensive, but he wasn't very aggressive either. And if you see him playing now, he's really going forward. He's in the field and that's how he beat Stefanos Tsitsipas", reports Phillipe Veille.
