After an outstanding performance, Alexander Zverev is in the semifinals of the French Open like last year.

The tennis Olympic champion defeated the exceptional Spanish talent Carlos Alcaraz on Tuesday 6: 4, 6: 4, 4: 6, 7: 6 (9: 7) and was convincing all along the line.

Zverev beat a top ten player in a major for the first time in the twelfth attempt and is in the last four for the fifth time at the highest level.

After 3:18 hours he converted his second match point.

The third in the world rankings now meets Grand Slam record winner Rafael Nadal from Spain or world number one Novak Djokovic from Serbia in a duel for a final ticket.

The top stars will play against each other for the 59th time in the evening game in Paris.

Zverev was already in the final of the US Open in 2020, but narrowly lost to the Austrian Dominic Thiem.

The top German player, who was about to be eliminated in the second round in Paris, put the 19-year-old Alcaraz under pressure from the start of the match with strong service and an almost flawless game from the baseline.

Zverev was not impressed by Alcaraz' set win either and earned the prestige success.
