A few hours after his honorary plaque was removed from the Atletico Madrid legends lane outside the Wanda Metropolitano stadium, Thibaut Courtois took to the social networking sites to respond with a private message.

The Real Madrid goalkeeper gave an exceptional performance and won the man of the match to lead Los Blancos to glory in the Champions League, after he made 9 saves in the final against Liverpool.

Courtois tweeted "Hala Madrid" and attached the phrase with his picture with the Champions League trophy and the best player award.

Controversial Comments

Before the final against Liverpool, Courtois confirmed - during a press conference - that "now on the good side of history."

The Belgium international was Atletico Madrid's goalkeeper when they lost to Real Madrid in the Lisbon Final in 2014.

Madrid Mayor's message

Madrid Mayor Jose Luis Martinez Almeida, an Atlético fan, did not forget Courtois' comments after Real Madrid's victory in Paris.

"On the good side of history, we also cried with you in Lisbon," Martinez Almeida said.

Atlético de Madrid President Enrique Cerezo responded yesterday, Monday, to the desire of some fans to remove the painting of Courtois.

"If you want to remove the Courtois board, use your ax and shovel and remove it," Cerezo commented.
