Rafael Nadal, in the running for a 14th title at Roland-Garros, was able to attend the Champions League final on Saturday but he arrived at the Stade de France on foot after getting out of his car stuck on the highway in the traffic jams, he said on Sunday.

"I had difficulty getting to the stadium. I had to get out of the car on the highway and finish on foot," said Rafael Nadal, who wanted to attend the Champions League final at the Stade de France on Saturday.

"Otherwise I wouldn't have made it in time because the car that was taking me didn't arrive at the (stadium) car park until 10:15 p.m. But I got there on foot, it was easier than I didn't think. People from the organization recognized me and helped me," he added.

Real Madrid won

"The exit, on the other hand, was easy: a car was waiting for me in the basement in the parking lot, we managed to get out quickly and at 00:20 I was in my room", continued the Mallorcan who was playing his 8th of final late Sunday afternoon.

"Unfortunately, I couldn't see the celebration but it was a great moment for me to see my first Champions League final in real life and moreover with the victory (of Real)", he concluded .

The match at the top of European football, which saw Real Madrid win against Liverpool (1-0), started with a delay of more than 30 minutes due to scenes of chaos outside the stadium, due to the influx of tens of thousands of supporters and intrusion attempts.
