Al-Ahly club of Egypt congratulated its Spanish counterpart Real Madrid after the latter won the Champions League for the 14th time in its history, at a time when Al-Ahly seeks to crown its 11th title in the African Champions League when it meets Wydad Casablanca in Morocco, today, Monday (23:00 UAE time).
Al-Ahly said in a “tweet” through his official account on the “Twitter” website: “We would like to congratulate the Real Madrid team on winning the Champions League for the fourteenth time.”
Real Madrid defeated Liverpool, led by its Egyptian star, Mohamed Salah, with a clean goal in the final, Saturday, in Paris.
Real Madrid raised its tally of continental titles to 27 titles, three titles ahead of Al-Ahly, which was recently crowned with four titles (the Champions League and the African Super Cup).
The congratulations sparked controversy among the fans on social media, especially after the Egyptian fans sympathized with Liverpool for the eyes of their brilliant son, Mohamed Salah, the English Premier League top scorer with 23 goals and the best player in the “Premier League” chosen by critics and fans this season.
